Former San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will become the Dallas Cowboys head coach, NFL sources confirmed to NFL Network Wednesday night.
Phillips interviewed for the vacant head coaching job in January and maintained throughout the process that he thought he had an excellent chance to be the chosen one. Turned out he was right. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones tabbed the Texas-born-and-bred Phillips to become the team's next head coach, to install the 3-4 defense that Phillips has run so well, and to get this team back on the right track in the postseason.
An official announcement is expected Thursday.
